Anakeesta

Updated: Nov 27, 2022

Anakeesta originated from the Cherokee language; it literally means "the place of high ground." Anakeesta is situated on 70-acre mountain above Gatlinburg, Tennessee. It is a one-of-a-kind theme park with exquisite views of the Smokies.

The experience begins at the base of the mountain where the entrance will take you up the mountain on the Chondola or the Ridge Rambler whichever you prefer. On thing to keep in mind is: be on the look out for wildlife especially bears. They have been spotted numerous times in and around Anakeesta.

Once at top, you are welcomed by Firefly Village. It is like stepping to a a quite mountain village with plenty to see and do. Better get those walking shoes on. You're going to need them. But do not take my word for it; go and check this place out for yourself. The flower gardens are absolutely beautiful and the views breathtaking.

One of the highlights in Anakeesta is the AnaVista Tower. It is surrounded by the Vista Gardens; guests can climb the 84 steps to its observation deck. There you will have a breathtaking, scenic view of the Smokies. There are two glass panels that will allow you to peer down into the Vista Garden below. There are interpretive signs located in the four areas of the observation deck that identifies the mountain peaks and ranges within the Smokies. The guests can also see into Kentucky and North Carolina. Do not forget to take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. So mesmerizing!

It is all about the Smokies, right?

Afraid of heights? Looking down may or may not be worth the risk! But it does not hurt to take a risk once in a while, right? Especially through glass panels in the floor!

The Smokies are not the only view worth checking out from AnaVista Tower. So is Anakeesta itself. But do not take my word for it! You have to see it to believe it.

Check out the TreeTop SkyWalk. Immerse yourself in nature as you stroll along the 880' of spectacular hanging bridges. But keep a sharp eye out for wildlife. Bears are known to hangout in these parts. Just a heads up!
